This species is found throughout Europe – even in the British Isles, East Asia and North Africa.
The heartwood is pale pink/brown coloured and the sapwood is lighter.
It is glossy veined and the growth rings are well differentiated.
The fibre is straight and the grain fine.
It dries quickly. Nevertheless, it is advisable to dry it slowly.
Cherry wood is a semi hardwood.
It is suitable for bending and easy to glue, nail, screw and finish. When it is machined, it is normal for the tools to become dull.
It is used for manufacturing plywood boards, decorative veneers and laminate floor boards.
