Oak is found throughout southern and central Europe, Canada, in the southern Scandinavian countries, England, Ireland and in the East to Turkey.

Light coloured, well-differentiated sapwood and variably coloured heartwood (from light yellowish-brown to brown). Straight fibre and rough, irregulary texture.
